Station Castle

Heidelberg Castle is one of the best-known castle ruins in the world. From here you have an impressive view of the town with its beautiful buildings, the Alte Brücke bridge and the peacefully meandering Neckar.

Its history has been dynamic since the start of its construction in the 13th century. The lords of the castle continued to add to the building over the course of three centuries. As a result the castle contains architectural evidence from the Gothic and Renaissance periods in particular - when the castle was in its heyday - for instance the Ottheinrich building, one of the most beautiful Renaissance palaces in Germany. After the castle was destroyed in the Palatinate War of Succession it was never fully restored. Gradually it fell into decay and finally experienced a new heyday in the Romantic period.

Free Wi-Fi Heidelberg4you available at the station.

Perkeo the dwarf

Maybe you will come across Perkeo, the dwarf who likes his drink, when you visit the castle. According to legend, the court jester and guardian of the barrels for Elector Palatine Karl Philipp (1716-1742) gratefully accepted every glass of wine he was offered with the words "Perché no?" (Why not?).
