1961

In 1961, the section between the bottom station at Kornmarkt and the Molkenkur station was modernized, and the cars on this section replaced. Larger cars controlled fully automatically were put into service, new machinery installed and new station buildings erected at Kornmarkt and the castle, and new tracks laid.

The railway was closed down in mid-September for the duration of the upgrading work. In April the following year it re-opened, now purely a funicular railway, dispensing entirely with the rack system. The new machinery enabled a speed of four metres per second to be reached on the Molkenkur section.
