Upper funicular runs from 27th May

(vom 20.05.2020)

Lower funicular, which provides a service between Kornmarkt and Molkenkur station via Heidelberg Castle, operates since 12th May.

From Wednesday 27th May, Heidelberg’s historic upper funicular that runs from Molkenkur to Königstuhl, operates as per the usual summer timetable, departing every 20 minutes between 9.00 am and 8.00 pm. You can find the current timetable here.

All passengers are requested to keep to the current hygiene and distancing rules, wear a mask covering the nose and mouth, and comply with access control policies at the stations. To ensure that distancing rules can be followed, the number of passengers permitted in the waiting areas and railway carriages at any one time is being reduced.

Repair works to the station at Königstuhl

This later start of the upper funicular is because of repair works to the station at Königstuhl. A routine structural survey was carried out at the end of February, during which it was established that the sandstone plinths needed repair. These structures support the sandstone platforms to the right and left of the track at Königstuhl station.
