1997

Modernization work was performed on both sections. The overhead lines, which had often suffered icing, were removed. Instead, the cars were now charged at each station with sufficient stored electrical energy for the journey to the next station. A current collector was used to tap the electrical energy. New braking systems permitted more gentle deceleration and stopping at the stations. Sleepers were replaced and new cables laid. Transmitters and receivers, door-control systems, operators' consoles and better radiators were fitted to the cars.
